“It’s in my blood, I can’t help it!” David Vierra says of his passion for farming. Ellard Vierra, David’s grandfather, was instrumental in settling the Sacramento River Delta in the 1920’s, and he farmed full-time until the mid-1960’s.
Though David’s father didn’t work on the family farm, he was involved in agriculture with his own custom hay operation.
When David was in the 8th grade, he traveled to Apple Hill for a field trip. This adventure was what inspired David to grow pumpkins, and eventually have a pumpkin patch. At the age of 13, David started growing his first pumpkins. He had a little plot to build and maintain his own garden and pumpkin patch.
Five years later, at only 18 years old, David established Vierra Farms on a piece of land his grandfather originally farmed. His main commodities were grass hay and wheat. Over the years, David has expanded to more than 800 acres of specialty produce, including pumpkins.
